Power system is one of very complex dynamic systems. With enlargement of power system in China, the problem about stabilization, especially low frequency oscillation, is outstanding gradually. This dissertation concentrates on application of governor based power system stabilizer (GPSS), discuss the principle of GPSS and how to obtain the data about oscillation in multi-machine system. With comparison and improvement of all kinds of algorithm, how to get data of oscillation is researched thoroughly. The main-points of this dissertation are listed as following:1. The principle of GPSS is particularly presented after power system stabilizer PSS) is introduced. The comparison modifies that there are many advantages of using GPSS.2. This paper introduces arithmetic in existence: FFT of Time Domain and PRONY of Frequency Domain. By comparison, Time-Frequency algorithm is brought forward.3. To show what is Time-Frequency arithmetic and on MATLAB platform carefully, have verified the validity of algorithm and make corresponding modification.4. To introduce other aspects about GPSS briefly.
