With the development of power system and the increase of voltage level, electromagneticinterference has becoming a severe problem in substations. To research the affection of thetransient electromagnetic pulses those arise from the operating of the circuit breakers anddisconnected switches in substations to the secondary cables, the finite difference timedomain (FDTD) method is used to solve the transmission line equation in this paper. Based onthe electromagnetic pulse simulator and an optical fiber system comprising a Rogowski loopas the current sensor which is used to measure the induced current, some experiments havebeen done to research the induced current on the transmission line which excited by anincident electromagnetic field. The correctness and validity of the FDTD method has beenvalidated in EMTP-ATP software when the excitations are lumped sources, in experimentalresults and the frequency-domain method when the excitations are distribution sources. Finally, the FDTD method is extended to the non-uniform transmission line.
