Urban Morphology Evolvement Study On Cultural And Natural Factors

The city, being the main inhabitancy for human beings, is a big system includingcultural and natural environment. When people talk about whether a city hascharacters, they often regard them as a whole system. The composing of the generalcharacters of a city which covers many aspects can be roughly divided into two parts:the cultural factor and the natural factor. In the system of a city, they are interactional.The content of this paper belongs to the general urban morphology. It means notonly the several corporeal parts of the city and the geometrical structures of landusage, but also a complicated economic, cultural and social phenomenon, aninteractional production of human activities and natural factors, an imago of people'srecognition and apperception to the unitary city.The research of the influencing factors of urban morphology evolvement, suchas economy, transportation, culture, nature, etc, has relationship with not only theestablishment of general urban characters, but also the investigation of the originalityand developing process of a city, and even the vitals of future development of a city.This paper follows a rational method based on history, theories andrealities. The research is from macro scope to micro phenomenon, from planeto point, from surface to inner, gradually putting the key research to thereconsideration of 'history and culture' and 'natural landscape' of urbanmorphology development in new age. Hence, the theory and the reality can betightly combined. Through the analysis of history, actuality and practicalproblems of city development, the paper clarifies the developing skeleton ofthe domestic and international urban morphology theory. It combines thecircumstance in new age, analyzes every factor which influences the urbanmorphology evolvement, investigates the two aspects of culture and naturewith theory and examples. The paper also summarizes the modes of urbandevelopment which is featured relative factors. It also presents the key theoryby the example of urban design of new center district in Linhai, Zhejiang.At last, the paper prospects the right way of urban morphology evolvement,illuminates the research value and meaning in 'history and culture' and'natural landscape' from a rational and macroscopic view.
