In order to the measure the time-resolved profile and emittance of the strong andpulsed beam in the Linear Induction Accelerator(LIA), a primary studies andinvestigation of varies methods which diagnose the electron beams are presented inthis article. The study emphasis is put on two optical methods-Cerenkov Radiationmethod and Optical Transition Radiation method. Based on the Maxwell equations, the basis principles of Cerenkov Radiation are reviewed, the angle-distributionformulas of Cerenkov Radiation are derived, the experiment principle and layout areintroduced. Using two ways-Lienard-Wiechert potential method and classicelectromagnetic method, the angle distribution equations are deduced. Further more, important characteristics of mentioned radiation are obtained, the ways to diagnosevaries beam parameters are also discussed. Primary results of an Optical TransitionRadiation experiment are listed.
