In this paper, The quasi-static test of one 1/3-scale model of RC frames with special-shaped columns was conducted. The bearing capacity, stiffness, ductility, deformation and hysteretic property for the structure are studied. It is shown that the seismic behaviour of this kind of frame is excellent. In terms of assuring that the joints of beam-column are not destroyed, the RC frames with special-shaped columns are the typical structure of strong columns and weak beams, the frames are feasible in seismic regions of intensity 8.At the same time, the experiment provides the availability date for the establishing of the National Profession Standard of special-shaped columns.According to finite element analysis and theoretical analysis, the model of finite element selected simulates nonlinear behaviour of RC frames with special-shaped columns in the paper. The calculated results and measured data are in a good agreement. Finally, some advices are put forward to the designer in this paper.
