In electric power market, reactive power optimization of distribution network is an effective means to improve system voltage quality, reduce power losses and ensure power system to operate in a secure and economical way without voltage collapse. Reactive power optimization of distribution network has been studied in this paper, taking maximum synthetical economic benefit as objective function.Firstly, Shunt capacitors are reactive power compensation equipments, widely applied to distribution network. This paper has studied algorithms to get optimal reactive compensation capacity and locality, from the viewpoint of minimum network losses, minimum annual disbursement cost, minimum annual operation cost, equivalent tiny ratio of network losses and in the situation of load model distribution. But the above algorithms can only confirm partial parameters.Secondly, in the actual electric network, configuration of shunt capacitors includes how to confirm their group number, capacitors, installation position and switched time of each group. Two significant geometric traits of reactive power current sustaining curve --" equivalent area criterion" and "equivalent length criterion" are used in this paper. Aiming at our country's reactive power load of distribution network has big fluctuation, two criteria mentioned above are applied to optimizing classification compensation of the terminal centralization load, optimizing decentralization reactive compensation or optimizing fixed and switched mixed reactive compensation of distribution load .The method adopted in this paper needn't directly solve integral equation group, simplified operation process.Finally, the method is substantiated valid through example computation and analysis.
