The use of rock-bolted crane beam in large caverns can shorten the cavern span and improve the stability of surrounding rock masses, thus obtain an early access to transportation within the cavern and accelerate the construction progress. Although there are more experience and information about the technique of rock-bolted crane beam, it is a new kind of technique and affected by many factors, so it has no rules and needs incessantly summarized and optimized in the engineering. To ensure the safety and reliability in the period of running, the bolt parameter and stress analysis between rock and beam are emphasized as designing. The routine design method are secure and feasible, however, they need further modification.Firstly, the traditional rigid limit equilibrium methods are introduced and theirs disadvantages are pointed also. The bolt stress formulae are obtained by modifying it with the displacement method and then carried on the computer. The finite element method is used also on the design of rock-bolted crane beam. It shows the different calculational models affect the result value in the plane elastic-plastic analysis. The further excavation of underground powerhouse will affect the bolt stress and rock mass near crane beam during the simulating stage excavation. The three-dimensional FEM emphasizes the stability and its impossible destructive modalities.
