Nowadays, there are hundreds of thousands reservoirs which are primary earth-rock dams in our country. Whereas, due to some reasons such as inconsiderately proving and designing, badly constructing and improperly managing and running, many dams and reservoirs have existed different degreed of hidden dangers, which not only affected engineering benefit, but even resulted in some dam bursting, and made enormous lost of nation and people's estate. The subject investigated of paper is Hualiangting earth-rock bam, using the software of ANSYS finite element. We analysis it's seepage field, stress field, coupled field by the means of numerical simulation. Firstly, by using objective optimization function of ANSYS, the authentic permeability coefficient of dam is deduced. Afterwards, the seepage field is analyzed by using APDL language and life and death unit technology, the seepage hydraulic head, seepage quantity and seepage sloping of the calculated section are gained, and the seepage stability are analyzed. Furthermore, in the dam stress analysis, the ANSYS software has been secondarily exploited by programming a Duncan-Chang Model macro command line, and the problem that Duncan-Chang Model cannot be used in ANSYS structural analysis is solved. Meanwhile, considering the influence of intermediate principal stress, the calculating results are contrasted through modifying Duncan-Chang Model. In the end, with iteration of seepage field and stress field, change of stress and displacement before and after iteration are compared and coupling of seepage field and stress field i s analyzed. There are three dam researching problems that have been emphasis solved in this paper, which are parameter inverse analysis, seepage field analysis and seepage stress coupled field analysis. In a certain extent, the programmed APDL command line can be generally used in other earth-rock dam numerical analysis and a new method to study dams has been provided.
