At present time, high arch dam is the developing direction of design of dam. The energy dissipation of flood discharge of the high arch dam is the emphases in the design of high arch dam. How to guarantee the safety when sluicing, and how to make use of the aeration and collision of the water jet and the plunge pool is a great subject, and how to exert the benefit of high arch dam is a more important one. In this paper, major studies are as follows:1 .The flow pattern and the mechanism of the energy dissipation in the plunge pool were discussed with physical model experiment after the water jet entered the plunge pool. After the nappe enter the plunge pool,it passed the region of free impact jet , impinging jet and wall free inpact jet, in which impaction zones along the region of free impact jet is the mean erergy dissipation region2. Analyzing the alteration law of time-average pressure and pressure fluctuation that along the plunge pool motherboard and comparing the two different case of flood release and energy dissipation under the work condition of the continuous bucket and differential bucket.3.Typical work conditions were computed through two-dementional RNG κ ~ ε numerical model, the obtained law of pressure along the plunge pool motherboard by computation accords with the experiment and the distribution status of turbulence energy and turbulence energy dissipation rate in the plunge pool were also obtained.
