At present, pipe exploding and breaking is occurring in most cities water supply networks in China. Pipe exploding and breaking happens unexpectedly, which extremely affects people's lives and environment, and which not only dissipates the precious water resource but also increases the water supply cost. With the improvement of people's needs, it is necessary for city waterworks to enhance the safety of the city water supply. Therefore, it is considerably significant in the development of Chinese cities water supply to decrease the probability of tubing exploding and breaking. On the basis of materials of tube exploding and breaking in Tianjin from July, 2001 to March, 2005, after disposing and classifying this datum, the basic laws that pipe exploding and breaking happened were discovered. Afterwards, according to statistics data and result on the scene, some detail factors, which affected water supply safety in Tianjin, including environment, pipes, operation and everyday maintenance of the network and so on were analyzed. Some detailed reasons of tubing exploding and breaking were verified initially. Water leakage volume was reasonably estimated by using condition estimation and hydraulic calculation of the network and curve fitting. Finally, in the condition of pipe exploding reasons, strategies of reducing water leakage were raised. Some feasible suggestions on precaution and improvement in Tianjin water supply networks will ensure the water networks safety and reliability in future. At the same time, these strategies will offer scientific gist and technology supports for safely running in Tianjin water supply networks.
