Application of power ultrasound becomes more and more prevalent in industry, which brings a demand of greater power and higher intensity ultrasonic Source. Acoustic horn is a key component in power ultrasonic equipment and plays a role in improving sound intensity and matching impedance. The large cross-section acoustic horn can transmit more power and higher intensity sound, therefore research on this kind of acoustic horn becomes more and more emergent.Firstly, the paper deeply describes related knowledge of acoustic horn as well as basic principle of (FEA) the finite element analysis method. Based on the above theories, some vibration characteristics of longitudinal acoustic horns are analyzed with (FEA) finite element analysis software ANSYS. Some factors' influence to large end amplitude distribution is studied such as big end diameter, length of horn, and diameter ratio of big end to small one. In addition, we carry on analysis and research to resonance frequency of large cross-section acoustic horn, amplitude magnification factor, wave node position of horn, transverse vibration situation and so on, and some related change rules are obtained. The analytic results indicate that many performance parameters of large cross-section acoustic horn as well as node position and so on have very wide differences compared with deduced results according to traditional design theory. Moreover, these differences become more obvious along with cross-section increasing. The test shows that the obtained results with finite element analysis software are more approximate to the observed values compared with ones with the traditional method, so designing large cross-section acoustic horn with ANSYS software can effectively reduce resonant parameter design error.We develop a special design and analysis software of horn in order to provide convenience for the people who design acoustic horn. Based on structure parameterization design theory, the parameterization module and the user interfacemodule are carefully designed with ANSYS parameterization design language (APDL) and visual programming language (VB). Entity modeling, recognition of vibration model, computation of amplitude magnification factor and wave node position and so on are solved in parameterization module during the course of large cross-section acoustic horn . User interface is friendly and can be easily operated. This software not only is suitable to the design of general diameter horn, but also can designs quickly and accurately large cross-section acoustic horn.
