With the development of technology society, sources water in the world have been widely polluted. The removal rate of resolvable organics and NH4-N in micro-polluted source water by conventional treatment method is rather low, and chlorination can form organic halide which will do harm to person.biological aerated filter(BAF) has many advantages, such as small volume, little covering earth and hydraulic retention time (HRT),high treatment efficiency and effluent water quality, low investment and running cost etc and has been used in Micro-polluted source water recently. In this paper, BAF was studied on Huanghe River water micro-polluted source pretreatment with Zeolite and GAC as filtration media. Different factors that influence the growth of biofilm were studied. After 25 days, the removal rate of NH4-N arrived at about 60%.we can confine that the formation of the biofilm finished. The result shows that under the conditions of short hydraulic retention time ( HRT) 40min, air-water ratio 1:1, and water temperature 25-30 °C, the removal rate NH4-N, CODMn,UV254,and turbidity is averaged at 95%, 32.68%, 9.42% and70.1%, respectively, with high resistance to shock loading. The research results also show the optimal combination of the Zeolite with the GAC is an economical, high-efficient and feasible process in pretreating water. The combination process has a widely application prospect removal of drinking source water in China and other countries.
