The brake system in EV and HEV which are of regenerative braking is different from the conventional friction braking system in certain aspects. Its braking stability would change during braking besides it can recover kinetic energy of the vehicle. In this paper, the braking stability and the regenerative capacity of the braking energy under meeting the braking stability condition of the regenerative braking system has been analyzed. The drive motor in EV and HEV in this paper is the Permanent Magnet Brushless DC Motor. The first, the principle of electrical regenerative braking and several control strategies for regenerative braking of this motor were discussed. The second, the control strategy, control logic and influential factors on recovering braking energy were analyzed for EV and HEV. Based on them, to the regenerative braking system made up of the traditional frictional braking system and electrical regenerative braking system, the braking stability during the hybrid mechanical and electrical regenerative braking under different drive manners for EV and HEV has been analyzed by modeling and simulation. The analysis showed that the front-drive EV and HEV is prior to the rear-drive EV and HEV not only in the braking stability but also in recovering braking energy. Subsequent, the control strategy for regenerative braking in EV and HEV based on the ECE regulation was proposed, and a simulation on this control strategy was performed in ADVISOR 2002 by establishing an embedded simulation model. The result showed that it would be more powerful in recovering braking energy in the typical driving conditions of city and countryside. In addition, the distribution of braking share of every braking force varies according the different vehicle speed in ADVISOR2002, but when we analyze the braking stability on vehicle,The braking share of every braking force depends on the braking strength. So it will cause inconvenience for us to apply ADVISOR2002 to research the regenerative braking system in EV and HEV.Upon this cause,The regenerative braking strategy module in ADVISOR2002 was redeveloped according to this paper strategy, the results showed the modified strategy could robustly run in the interface GUI of ADVISOR2002.
