As a high efficient powerful mechanism, diesel has been favored by more and more people, but the bad performance of the cold starting restricts its further development and application.Based on the Thermodynamics, Gas Dynamics and Diesel Engine Fundamentals, this thesis gave an analysis and research on the cold starting of the 4JB1 diesel engine . By the Classical Equations of Law of Conversation of Energy, Conversation of Mass and the Ideal Gas Equation, the math model of the cold starting progress of 4JB1 Diesel Engine was reasonably built and calculated.In order to gain the performance of the cold starting, the paper used the powerful math software—MATLAB to program and calculate the model. In the end, according to the result of the simulation, the author found out the main factors which affect the performance of the cold starting of the 4JB1 Diesel, and then presented the measures to improve the performance of the cold starting.
