The function of water diversion system of the pumping station is to ensure adequate water current flow evenly into pump sump or inlet conduit and to offer pump fine flow conditions. It also can guarantee operation security of the pumping station and the water level in the pump intake not change abruptly within suspending period. Practically, there are unsteady flow in the water diversion system of the pumping station as a result of the change of upsteam stage and pump operation stage. It has important significance for the optimum operation and management of the pumping station to study on one-dimensional unsteady flow of water diversion system of the pumping station.Based on the theory of one-dimensional unsteady flow, Saint-venant Equations discreted by 4-point Preissmann implicit scheme, is used to analyze fluid dynamic characteristics of unsteady flow in water diversion system of the pumping station and to calculate stage hydrograph of the pump intake in this paper. So the hydraulic parameters of the approaching channel which would meet the operation need for the pumping station can be acquired.At the same time, considering the interaction of the water level in the diversion channel and the pump intake, diversion channel with river network is to be included by the water diversion system, and the traditional definition of "water diversion system" is expanded. Then two mathematical models studying on one-dimensional unsteady flow of water diversion system are proposed aiming at the hydraulic calculation of two different type of the diversion channel with the branch river network and the ring river network. To solving the node equations, Successive Over Relaxation Method which based on the Matrix Mark Method for solving large size sparsity linear equations is used. At last, HEC-RAS software system and programme are applied in order to solve the mathematical models. All mathematical models can be used for reference in the project research, design and operation of pump engineering.
