Water is a common contamination in oil system. To solve these various problems coming from water contamination, many kinds of oil-water separation techniques have been developed. Among these techniques, coalescence method has lots of advantages, such as high performance of dehydration, low cost, low energy cost, convenient for maintenance and etc., so it has been used in many industrial fields. This Dissertation tries to discuss the principle of coalescence, builds a laboratory apparatus and designs an experimentation to search the factors that influence the performance of dehydration. So we can make pieces of suggestions for other engineers or operators.Appling this coalescence apparatus with 30# turbine oil, designing experimentation to study on the factors that influence the performance of dehydration, such as temperature, flux, initial water content in oil. This dissertation tries to find a theory of coalescence process and separation process.According to the formula of API/IP 1582, this dissertation analyses the fluid field of the apparatus' vessel in detail. Based on this analyze, we optimize the design of coalescence vessel and relocate coalescencers and separators. An auto-control program for the apparatus has been developed. The apparatus also can be controlled manually. The results of this dissertation not only have their theoretical value, but also can be used in the engineering field. The study of coalescence separation technique becomes more and more important, especially when the energy sources crisis is coming today.
