In the past tens years, the theory of 3D attitude measurement of image targets has been speedy developed, and widely used in test ranges as an important measurement method. Because of the difficulty in extracting the features automatically and exactly, the semiautomatic methods are mostly used in attitude measurement currently, which results in poor automaticity and precision.Under the situation of engineering, the algorithms for features extraction based on analyzing the characteristics of test range targets are mainly studied. This paper includes the following five sections:1. The theories of 3D attitude measurement in test ranges are reviewed, and the necessary parameters of features are summarized.2. The factors which cause measurement angle errors are analyzed, and the modifications are studied to use in line extraction algorithm for plane_plane intersection.3. The theory of the active contour method is introduced systematically, and an improvement of energy function is presented. The experiments with the greedy algorithm give a good result.4. Many line extraction methods are summarized, and a new algorithm for extracting the generatrix edges is presented. This method is simple, rapid, practical and experiments show satisfied results.5. A new conception of centersymmetric gradient that provides an idea of studying target features is defined, and a new algorithm based on the conception has been presented to detect corners. It is a simple and rapid speed method proved by experiments.
