The negative social and environmental impacts of our current unsustainable patterns of energy use are apparent. If current trends continue, future society will require the use of even more energy. Thus, large-scale alternative methods of providing this energy are needed to permit sustainable development. Fortunately, advances in science and technology have provided us with several alternative means of producing energy on a sustainable level, such as wind, geothermal, biomass, and solar. Of these means, solar provides the most widely adaptable applications of converting sunlight directly into electrical energy. However, cost still remains the leading factor in obstructing the large-scale installations of solar cells.1. The investigation on hybrid solar cellThe present PV market is dominated by three kinds of Si-based solar cells, that is, single-, multi- or non-crystalline Si-based solar cells (for short, marked hereafter as Sc-Si, Mc-Si and Nc-Si solar cells, respectively). The conventional PV system in general uses Sc-Si or Mc-Si solar cell module as the element for solar energy conversion, for which have comparatively higher conversion efficiency. Available in PV market, the typical efficiencies under STC are 14%, 12% and 7% for Sc-, Mc- and Nc-Si solar cell modules, respectively . However, it is not only the module efficiency that decides whether a PV system is cost effective but also the timescale during which the module works efficiently in a daytime of use and the cost the module itself requires. At this point, Nc-Si solar cell comes with its advantages of broader timescale, lower cost . The broader timescale merit of Nc-Si solar cell arises from its high absorption of light with wavelength around 300-800nm, no matter it is scattered or not, and no matter it is weak or blazing. The Sc-, Mc-, and Nc-Si solar cells, therefore, reinforce each other in performances, which could be exploited to construct a hybrid PV system with lower cost in view of the well-balanced set of system performance.2. The investigation on MPPT of solar cellThe majority of photovoltaic systems produced in the factories are widely equipped with constant voltage tracker (CVT) instead of maximal power point tracker (MPPT) for tracking the maximal power output of solar cell array. Although the production cost of the CVT is lower than that of MPPT, the simulation results...
