One of the problems in the practical applications of Optical Current Transformers (OCTs), is the harmful effects of its temperature characteristics. The thermal model of a bulk glass current sensing element is proposed. The effects of ambient temperature variation upon the temperature distributions in the sensing head and on the optical sensing paths are analyzed, using the finite element analysis software, in this paper. The results show that temperature distributions in the sensing head and on the optical path will change about 80℃, respectively, while the circumstance temperature changes in the range of - 40℃ ~ 40℃, and the variation of temperature gradient is not significant. This result might offer an important reference to the studying of eliminating the harmful effects of the temperature upon the sensing head and the whole measuring system.Numerical simulation is one of the important powers which promote the form and the development of the modern engineering. At present, the FEA(Finite Element Approach) is the common numerical simulation method in the engineering technology. It is a very effective engineering numerical calculating method. With the improvement of the computer speed, FEA is increasing being developed. ANSYS, as one of the finite element software, is getting a general appreciation, by more and more engineers in the word, of its prior properties. The steady-state temperature characteristics of the OCT are analyzed, using the software of ANSYS. At the same time, the enactments of some options are given in this paper. These might be a reference to the applications of the ANSYS in thethermal analysis.These research not only supply an important reference to the further studying of the OCTs, especially to the studying of effects of the temperature variation upon the sensing head and the whole measuring system, but also a guide to the...
