Since the internal-combustion engine come into the world, people have worked hard a long time to find the optimal power transmitting gear used in the internal-combustion engine. Slot-and-crank gear is the typical gear that can convert reciprocating linear motion into rotation motion and has been used widely. However, Slot-and-crank gear has its own defects, for example, it has dead centers and its transmission efficiency is low. In order to replace Slot-and-crank mechanism, people proposed various drive gear projects in the past one hundred years, but they all didn't achieve their objectives.Now the energy is very lacking, increasing the efficiency of the internal-combustion engine is urgent. Professor Liangxichang has invented a new engine called gear-sector engine. This engine adopts rack-and-pinion gear as power transmitting gear in the internal-combustion engine. Because the rack-and-pinion gear's transmission efficiency is 97%, higher 10% than the slot-and-crank gear's, the gear-sector engine's gross efficiency is higher 4% than classical engines.This article has proved the gear-sector engine's rationality in theory. At first, borrowing ideas from the group technology, utilizing the succession and the similarity among various projects of power transmitting gears about the internal-combustion engine and through category method, these projects was grouped. The second, applying"gear synthesis"method in mechanism, every group's nature was summarized and the relationship among these groups was found. Finally the possible power transmitting gear projects about the internal-combustion engine was summarized. It was proved that using the rack-and-pinion gear as power transmitting gear in the internal-combustion engine was feasible.After the certification in theory, the article introduced the gear-sector engine model detailedly. Only the rack-and-pinion gear was kept down in the model and other gears in engine was omitted. The meshing process can be researched solely. In the model, the ball screw was drove by stepping motor and the gear rack that moved along guide rail and meshed with gear section was pushed by nut.The design of control system about the model was another emphasis.
