The technique of strengthening RC structure by bolting steel plates is that steel plates are fixed by anchors to the face of RC structure, which makes beam and steel plates change into one structure system to bear load simultaneously. This strength technique avoids desquamation of bonded steel plate effectively and has a very good strengthening effectiveness. To study the strengthening RC beam by bolting steel plate, 5 strengthened beams are designed and the influence of the strengthening effectiveness by rigidity of anchor and thickness of steel plate is defined. Nonlinear finite element model of strengthening beams are established and the design method of this strengthening technique is given.1. Based on the interaction between bolting steel plates and RC beam, the slip effect of anchor which leads to steel plate strain delay and can't make full use of the strength of steel plate is studied. The slip effect of bolting bottom face and side face plate of RC beam is derived under elastic condition and its influence on strength and rigidity of RC beam is obtained.2. Because of the performance of anchor being the critical factor to the strengthening effectiveness, the bearing load mechanics and calculation method of anchor are discussed attentively. The types of anchor and failure feature of anchor are generalized comprehensively.3. This essay discusses the bearing capacity, the development of cracks and the rigidity of beams by bolting steel plates through contrasting experiment of static load between strengthened beam and non-strengthened beam.4. 10 strengthened RC beams are analyzed by ANSYS. Based on the results of finite element analysis, it indicates that the analysis has a good precision and gains coincident conclusion with the test.5. Based on test and FEM analysis, the design formula of flexural strengthening RC beams by bolting steel plates is given in this paper and the result indicates that the formula provides a good reliability.
