The rapid response of the market is an important feature in the mechanical products design process. This paper introduces a parameters functions-unit system based on functional analysis. System was integrated in the Pro/E CAD system so that designers in its more familiar with high-level functional basis for the definition of product models may better reflect design intent to improve product development efficiency and the development of quality. The main research contributions are:Features of function-unit were summarized to build a function-unit library supporting rapid functional design process. The development of design methods and design environment changes was analyzed, its key technologies, including the rapid design technology, modern CAD technology, function catalogue to find functions and features of the function-unit systemParametric design and modular design has been analyzed to create parameterized-solid-module with 3D design platform. Through the use of parameterized-solid-module functional analysis and entity modeling could be combined to improve design speed.Based on the above theory and methods, we build function-unit library for mechanical drive train system and illustrated parameters management on the basis of description of a parameterized solid.Explore and apply key technologies involved in the process of building a function-unit library, including the re-development technology of Pro/E, database storage technology, XML and distance network...
