As the ideal habitat corridor and the highest quality green belts in cities, urban waterfront landscape is the most vital form of urban landscape. The zone of urban waterfront is a place which can easily interests citizens and has an inherent lasting attraction to people. An integrated urban waterfront system should be a natural garden which should be self-maintained and self-updated in cities. Therefore, we should not only treat urban waterfront as beautiful landscape from aesthetic aspect, but understand it from deeper and broader dimensions.Urban waterfront landscape directly affects the urban structure, urban ecological environment and the life quality of urban residents. By analyzing the development process and examples of both domestic and foreign urban waterfront landscape, this thesis brought forward problems existing in design of domestic waterfront landscape and discussed them. The thesis contains four parts: relationship between water bodies and cities, ecological design of waterfront, design of humanism public open space of waterfront landscape and analysis of examples. Adopting natural and ecological points of waterfront landscape design which have been ignored in the past, combined with humanism views, this thesis tried to explore enormous ecological function and recreational function of urban waterfront landscape, and attempted to build up an ideal continuable urban waterfront landscape belts with the harmonious natural and artificial environment.Through the discussion on the subject, we hope that urban waterfront landscape could be a harmonious system with artificial and natural landscape designed on combination of scientific, artistic and humanism views which is different from traditional "upper hand", "conquer nature" theory.
