As ultrasonic wave field radiated by ultrasonic transducer influences the results of ultrasonic nondestructive testing, therefore it is crucial to understand distribution and configuration of the wave field. In recent years, with the progress of the mathematical models in ultrasonic nondestructive testing as a new discipline and availability of high-speed personal computers with large storage and random access memory, simulation and emulation is becoming an important branch of ultrasonic nondestructive testing. The paper analyzed the ultrasonic propagation behavior, and described a formulation of the multigaussian beam model (MGB), and the analytical model of ultrasonic wave filed was established. This model is represented by a superposition of gaussian beams, and can simulate the wave fields of planar or focused transducers radiating at oblique incident through a curved fluid-solid interface. The MGB model is highly efficient and can be easily implemented on an ordinary personal computer. Then ultrasonic wave field is simulated and visualized on a personal computer in a highly efficient manner based on the multigaussian beam model. In order to verify the simulation field, the ultrasonic wave field radiating by a planar transducer was measured by small ball. By comparing the simulation field with the measured field, it is found that MGB is accurate in the far-field and most near-field region. Thus it is reasonable and valid to analyze the actual ultrasonic inspection field using the MGB model. Furthermore the influence of the interface curvature and wave mode conversion on the inspection filed was still analyzed by the author. The results were in good agreement with the general rules of ultrasonic nondestructive testing. In order to make the MGB more easy-operating, ultrasonic testing simula-tion software was designed and developed, which has a good user-oriented interface and can simulate easily the inspection fields of planar transducer, focused transducer and angle beam transducer. It also can help inspectors analyze the inspection procedures and predict the feasibility of actual ultrasonic testing, then choose suitable inspection parameters. The side-drill hole and flat-bottom hole are commonly used in ultrasonic...
