Development of industry is closely ralated to the nondestructive testing. Ultrasonic test which is a part of nondestructive test plays a very important role. With the development of industy and improvement of ultrasonic technology, the application fields of ultrasonic test is getting bigger day after day. This thesis has done some research about ultrasonic application in engineering and some other materials. The main contents of the thesis are as follows:1. Multi-channel ultrasonic facilly used in testing big caliber polyethylene (PE) pipe had been designed and produced. Polyethylene is not poisonous or toxic, no corruption, no dirt, low cost, nice flexility and easy to fuse. Because of these charactersitics, PE pipe has attracted considerable attention these days. At home, PE pipe has been used in city water pipeline engineering these years, and will be used in large projects like divert water form the south to the north project. Considering quality guarantee and cost saving, a nondestructive test equipment is needed during the production, which can inspect the thickness and roundness of the pipe. The feeding dose was controlled and roundness was revised according to the data inspected online. Aimed at the question, this thesis put forward a method that using ultrasonic test to inspect large caliber PE pipe, and developed the equipment of multi-channel ultrasonic test ourselves. Fistly, the article explained and analysised the principle of design and mechanism of design. Secondly, carried out some experiments and gained some intuitionistic results after data process. Lastly, the thesis gave some improved advice about the machine and software.2. Preliminary exploration about composite material inspection using ultrasonic test have been done.Thermal wave lab has done some work about bounding quality of ITER fist wall. Based on that, further study was done. In the fist place, digital C-scan resluts revealed bounding information of Be/Cu mock-up. The artificial defects as small as 1mm was checked out, furthermore some natural defects were also checked out. In the seconed place, graphite which has good heat shock resistance replaced of Be, and graphite/Cu mock-up was produced. Phase information was employed to judge their bounding quality, which can reduce misjudgements. Lastly, strainless steel (SS)/Cu mock-up was made. Echo scatter problem caused by small diameter of plexiglass pipe was improved. Some other research was done to composites: in the test of corruption of airplane part, different color represents diffent thickness and C-scan map was generated. In the other test, like honycome, titanium alloy sheet, laser welding, different color represents different amplititude of a certain interface. Not only ultrasonic C-scan test was employed, but other methods were used. Most of the contrastive exams showed the similar results, which fully demonstrates reliability of ultrasonic C-scan test. This technology is pretty straightforward, stable coupling, and can measure the scale of the defects. So it will certainly be widely used in research area. But because of its limit of experiment environment, practical applications of engineering remains to be developed.
