Gas-solid two phases flow is broadly exist in industry and nature. Research on it is very important, which can help us optimize the manufacture process, improve efficiency, and reduce pollution. The characteristic and interaction of the gas-solid two phases flow is very complex, which is affected by many factors, such as boundary condition, the characteristic of the solid phase, the mass ratio of gas and solid. In this paper we use the most advanced means that is PIV at present, to investigate the characteristic of the two phases flow when it flows through a suddenly broadened orifice. This paper is composed of five chapters.Chapter one is a summarization. In this chapter, we simply introduced the meaning of researching on gas-solid two phase flow. The experimental means, i.e. PIV is presented in detail. The second chapter focuses on algorithm research. Now many algorithms are only for single phase flow, and it is also necessary to develop high accuracy algorithm for PIV technology. In the chapter, a new algorithm which is suitable for strong deformation flow is presented. And the recognizing of overlapped particles in images is also proposed. In the third chapter a small software is introduced, which is based on the algorithm presented in chapter two, and written at matlab platform. The software consists of two parts, the PIV method and PTV method. It can deal with the images captured both by PIV equipment and high speed camera. The designing of the experiment and the analysis of the result are given at the fourth chapter. Gravity make the solid phase deposit, which makes the solid phase at the bottom of the tube move faster than the solid phase at the top of the tube. Because of the interaction between solid phase and gas phase, the gas phase near the bottom of the tube also moves faster than that near the top of the tube.At the last chapter we summarize the whole paper. The problem of the experiment and the deficiency of PIV are analyzed, and some viewpoints are also proposed.
