With oil transport growing quickly and the oil industry developing on sea, accidents of oil spill happen frequently. Those accidents led to serious pollution problem of all over the world. Oil slick thickness measuring is one of absolutely necessary work of the sea environment management. In the parts of monitoring, responding of oil sea pollution, the exact data of the oil slick thickness is necessary. Therefore, the research of oil slick thickness is very important. The paper develops a new type of measuring system for oil slick thickness.Capacitance liquid level sensor is a kind of liquid level sensor that has been applied extensively. It has high measurement precision, wide measurement range and applications for different liquid, but weak anti-jamming ability and configuration limit its higher precision. In the paper, a new type of sensor for liquid level measuring system—Multielectrode capacitance sensor is designed, which conquers some defects of traditional capacitance sensor and has remarkable advantages such as simple structure, fine real time, high reliability, powerful anti-jamming ability, low cost and strong flexibility.The instrument adopts microcontroller MC9S12DJ128 with ATD and electric field imaging device MC33794 made by Freescale to constitute liquid level measuring system of higher precision. The theme introduces the design of Multielectrode capacitance sensor and elucidates the design of hardware and software. The system' s test has been achieved in the laboratory and targets are determined.The result of this item sets up a hardware and software platform for the embedded system study and provides the bases for other applications of electric field imaging device MC33794.
