Bioengineering techniques have been in wide use in slope protections as a branch of science and technology. But the peace of the bioengineering techniques for slope protection is lagging behind the applying in engineering practice. The study of he bioengineering techniques for slope protection is still proceeding on qualitative understanding now. The quantitative analysis of the level of the bioengineering techniques for slope protection and economic feasibility analysis has not been studied well. In view of the above analysis and the support"the Study of Using Vegetation to Protect and Steady Slope in Xiao-Xiang Expressway", this paper putts these matters in research.This paper summarizes the mechanism of vegetation systematically on the basis of the study of the research materials on hand. And this paper discusses mainly the strength of herbs'root and the anchoring effect and the supporting effect of woody plants'root in quantitative analysis method.Through the on-the-spot and interior experiments, this paper research mainly the rising of C(cohesion) andφ(inertial friction angle) and the enhance of anti-scouring of slopes by vegetation to explain the reinforce and protection of vegetation to slopes. Both the vegetation protection and engineering protection have their advantages and disadvantages. Comprehensive protection can remedy their disadvantages, but it is difficult to determine which is better in view of technological process and construction method.This paper compares the vegetation protection, engineering protection with comprehensive protection in level-analysis method on the basis of considering many factors such as stability, ecological benefits, economic returns and social benefits etc. A conclusion that comprehensive protection is better in all can be drawn.
