This paper summarizes the state of the art of researches and applications of mega structural system. By combining the advantages of both mega frame and mega truss structure, mega frame-brace structural system is proposed and the static performance, dynamic properties and earthquake response of the structural system are studied. In order to improve the seismic performance of the mega frame-brace structural system, a new system of mega frame-brace structure with Energy Dissipator is also presented. Dynamic behavior of this new structural system under severe earthquake action is also analyzed. The main work and important achievements of this paper are as follows:The static performance of both mega frame-brace structure and mega frame structure is discussed. The internal force, displacement and load-transform mechanics of structures induced by the vertical load, the wind load and the two loads are studied. Results indicate that mega frame-brace structure has preferable static behavior.The dynamic behavior and earthquake response of both mega frame-brace structure and mega frame structure are also analyzed. In the first place, vibration characteristics of the two structures are studied. Furthmore, the earthquake response of two structures is analyzed and compared utilizing response spectrum analysis and elastice/elastic-plastic time history analysis respectively. Studies show that mega frame-brace structure possesses superior dynamic properties.The dynamic behavior of mega frame-brace structure with Energy Dissipator under severe earthquake action is anaylized utilizing elastic-plastic time history analysis. The influence of various layout fashion of unbonded braces is also studied. Results indicate that if unbonded braces are installed in suitable locations of structures, it can acquire better dynamic behavior by means of minority unbonded braces, and the unbonded brace not only can reduce the lateral displacement, but also diminish the maximum base shear and peak acceleration at the top of structures.
