Based on the previous analytical theory of restrained torsion , distortion and shear lag effect, the paper discusses the herringbone bridge in the application of the superhighway , urban road bridge and viaduct bridge. In order to offer the theory foundation for accurately analyzing the herringbone bridge, it develops the element rigid matrix calculating the restrained torsion, distortion and shear lag effect by the analytical method of increasing freedom degrees. and gain the mechanics property rule of herringbone thin-walled box girder based on the model experiment of herringbone thin-walled box girder. In addition, we prove the correctness of analytical and calculable theory. Making use of the theory result and combining the structure characteristics of Y-shape Bridge, we compile a simple and practical finite element program of framed structure system(SPFEM), and put forward some advice and the references on the design and structure analysis of herringbone thin-walled box girder. At last, structure analysis of Y-shape bridge is carried out with SPFEM and general finite element program, and we deeply analyze the different structure parameters of restrains , loading cases and disposition ,find out some valuable conclusions and advices of actual engineering application.
