Space intersecting joint is widely used in project due to its fine appearance and mechanics performance. However, compared with flat, its geometric shape is so specific and complex that need new way to adapt in ultrasonic testing. Researchers have tried several detect methods, and made some improvements. But there are still deficiencies. There are many difficulties in detecting flaw location because of the complex construction.The context analyzed current detecting methods and proposed a new method to orient inner welding seam defect of intersecting joints in steel structure, according to the most typical construct characteristic of Y joints in tubular structure. It analyzed the transmission rule of sound wave in steel tubular welding construction aims at the geometry of tube-tube joints. It built ultrasonic sound beam equation based on each construction parameter of tube-tube joints. The equation can orient the defect in the welding seam of complex tube-tube joints. Through computer aid calculation, the location can be confirmed rapidly. Compared with other methods, the new one can make accurate orientation, and improve the efficiency of ultrasonic non-destructive testing.Multiple used all conclusion of deduction, combined the result of the data in site, the choice of probe, and information of equipment, take face-to-object programme method, use Visual C++ 6.0 to develop computer aid testing system of Y tubular joints. Through the system, it produced the result automatically and rapidly. Through the practical testing, it proves the system not only get the satisfactory result, and time-saving as well. It proves, the computer could help operator to make ultrasonic testing and deserve popularizing.
