During service, aircraft turbine engines may suffer foreign object damage (FOD) from ingestion of small hard particles and birds. The helicopter has more flexibility than any other aircraft, and it's easier to get FOD. Inlet particle separator is a special device designed for helicopter engine to prevent foreign object be ingesting. It's worth to study FOD of the turbine engines. This paper is about the experiment and numeric simulation of the metalwork impact on the volute vane of the particle separator. There are series experiments under different conditions. According to the strain and the deforming, a conclusion is to be drawn. It is based on the application of explicit finite element (FE) analysis codes to study volute vane behavior under metalwork impact conditions. With LS-DYNA, the numeric simulation studies on the impact are described. The results of calculations are good agreement with the experimental data. Base on these studies, a series numeric simulations studies under different impacting conditions are described.
