According to the requirements of the Tenth Five-year National Research Project, "the safety estimation expert system of pressure bearing equipments and the investigation on plastic response chart of typical structures", by means of the finite element analysis, the plastic limit load of typical pressure bearing structures was researched in this paper. The main contents and achievements were summarized as follows:(1) The typical pressure bearing structures were selected, the finite element models of typical pressure bearing structures were created. The suitable preprocess programs for the subject were developed.(2) The plastic limit load of sealing head, cam sealing head with nozzle, piping tee and elbow were calculated, and the effect of the geometric sizes on the plastic limit load were investigated.(3) The plastic limit internal pressure database about cylindrical vessel with lateral connection were built, and the effect of the geometric sizes on the plastic limit pressure were investigated, the engineering estimated formulae of cylindrical vessel with lateral was fitted.(4) The plastic limit internal pressure database about cylindrical vessel with tangential connection was built, and the effect of the geometric sizes on the plastic limit pressure were investigated, the engineering estimated formulae of cylindrical vessel with tangential connection was developed.(5) Based on the finite element analysis, the plastic response chart of typical pressure bearing structures were built.
