This dissertation comes from a scientific research project of Nantong University, Jiangsu Province.In recent years, GPS(Global Positioning System) flourished in almost every industry, especially in application of vehicles' supervising and locating systems. With the constant development of economic, people have higher expectation with public transportation systems. For the seek of cutting a payroll, bus companies arrange only one driver and no conductor on one bus in many cities nowadays. An intelligent and automatic bus-stop-announcing system is strongly required to assure safety of the bus system.Now an automatic voice bus-stop-announcing system with the support of GPS is being researched. It integrated voice announcing, speed limiting and safety prompting. Terminals of the system are equipped on the bus and connected with computer monitors in the company by GPS. So information about a bus (such as stop, over speed) can be seen on these monitors. The terminal compares the data from the satellites with data in its memory and then gives instructions for passengers to get off and for the driver to watch out.This system uses REB-21R GPS OEM Board of RoyaTek to gather realtime information about the bus, such as longitude, latitude, direction and operating state. After the process of high-speed embedded chip microcomputer, the system can locate the bus exactly by comparing the information with data saved before in direction and distance parameters. When the bus arrives the scheduled place, long-time voice processor ISD4004 will announce the corresponding recorded voice to meet the demand of automatic bus-stop announcing.
