Dead soft rock is widely dispersed in our country and it has properties such as minor cohesive strength , higher angle of internal friction, easier softening property, low compression strength, low tensile strength and easier disintegration with low saturation. Disaster such as avalanche and landslide is easy to take place in the zone where earthquake frequently encountered and the climate humid region. Studying the property of dead soft rock has important meaning for the local engineering construction.This paper is focused on the studying of excavation slope stability of Xigeda strata , a typical model of dead soft rock. Based on the spot and indoor experiments, the main tiny view structure and the main engineering properties in Xigeda strata is respectively studied. On the basis of analyzing influence factor of side slope stability and investigating at construction site, three types (stable, secondary stable and unstable )are classified. Through analyzing the stability of structure characteristics in different rock strata and selecting the typical models of different side slopes, and on this basis, the author analyze the deformation and stress of the typical models by using Ansys6.0, a giant finite element software, and discusses their stability. By studying the side slope protection technology, the author puts forward the suggestion of protection measure for different side slope type. This work can provide reference base for selecting the side slope protection scheme in the area.
