It has been a important mode in modern war to give a non-contact attack to distant enemy fleetly and accurately, so it becomes the important task of the Military power to build national missile defense system of which radar remains the vital sensor. As a primary problem of Ballistic target tracking which is a key technology in radar data processing, tracking initialization plays a very important role.The goal of this paper is to research on target tracking initialization for rapid target.The emphasis is how to select the size and the number of tracking gate.Heuristic rule method, logic-based method, Hough transfer method, improved Hough transfer method are several typical way for tracking initialization. It show that logic-based method and Hough transfer method have better performance by comparison .A new improved Hough transfer method is presented, which is to append a constraint condition in the Hough transfer. The result of simulation shows that this new algorithm has better informance.Based on the features of targets with high speed, an adaptive multi-hypothesis gate method is presented in this paper. The point is put on how the size and the number of tracking gate affect the performance of target tracking initialization, then the scheme of selecting size and the number of tracking gate is brought out.It is always a paradox to improve the performance of tracking initialization and to reduce its time cost , through tracking initializationhas been divided into different ranks to which We have different treatment, initializing fleetly for high rank, waiting to the next one or two step to initialize for lower ranks, non-initializing for the lowest ranks.The result of simulation shows that this method accelerates the average initialization velocity with certain probability of initialization and false initialization.
