This paper set up a hardware in the loop and real-time simulate test system of 1/4 vehicle suspension. Apply random road excitation produced by linear filter and harmony superposition simulation to this test system. Carry on the simulation and experimentation of road roughness in time field, magnetorheological dampers, passive suspension and semi-active suspension. Then evaluate performances of the suspension with the performance evaluate indexes.The research content of this paper includes four parts:Firstly, conclude two kinds of performance evaluation index of 1/4 vehicle suspension system: the transfer function evaluation method and the square root value (RMS) evaluation method.Secondly, analyse two kinds of methods that set up the road roughness in time field: linear filter simulation and harmony superposition simulation. Apply this two methods to carry out the road roughness in time field by programming with M-File S-function and C MEX S-function. And apply the C MEX S-function module, which is edited and translated by the RTW and then generate real-time code, to hardware in the loop real-time simulate test system.Thirdly, make use of the function of hardware in the loop and real-time simulate that provided by MATLAB, Simulink, RTW (Real-time Workshop) and xPC Target to set up the test system of 1/4 vehicle suspension. Expand the function of the D/A module of PCL-812PG Establish the simulation model of 1/4 vehicle semi-active suspension system based on Matlab/Simulink.Design the signal adjust circuit for sensor, and the power amplification circuit for the hydraulic pressure system of test platform and the controller of magnetorheological dampers. This test system can implement data acquisition, real-time control, adjust parameters on-line, produce the road roughness in time field, evaluate the function index, etc. Thus guide the design of the controller, assist the parameter validation of the controller.Fourthly, carry on the simulation analysis of the transfer function evaluation method and the RMS evaluation method for 1/4 vehicle suspension system, which can provide the analytical basis for the controller design of magnetorheological dampers. Analyse and contrast the simulation results for the two kinds of methods that set up the road roughness in time field, get a result that the harmony superposition simulation has the better simulation effect.
