The radial steel gate is one kind of the most widely applied steel gates in hydraulic structures. But when the gate is in the process of opening or shutting or partly opening, and sometimes even under the completely closed condition, it usually produces vibration, under some situations, the vibration of radial gate is so serious that the dynamic instability of radial gates or dynamic instability of some gate components may happen. Therefore, the dynamic problems of radial gates have been being the important problems that should be solved in the design and practical operation of radial gates.The destruction of radial steel gate was usually caused by the instability of the arms bearing the dynamic loads. The practical testing result indicates: the calculated own frequency value of arms as two ended hinged joint column was close to the surveying value. Therefore, regarding arms as two ended hinged joint columns in the air, to make the dynamic stability analysis under the vertical force (dynamic water pressure passed from leaf and main girder of gate) can reflect the main performance characteristics of the radial gate arms basically. This paper—on the basis of the static analysis of the steel frame, considering the restriction of the end of the columns of the main steel frame, regarding the pressure of water to gate panel as a periodical dynamic load, according to the elasticity system dynamic stability theory, analyzes the stability of the two ended hinged joint columns under periodical dynamic load, then finds out the relation between the influence factors and its dynamic characteristic. Through calculating and analyzing, it has drawn some valuable conclusions. The conclusion that works and draws herein is as follows:(1) Analyzed the reasons for causing the vibration and destruction of the radial gate; Summarized the vibrant types and characteristics of the gate; Pointed out that it should optimize the dynamic characteristic of the gate in design of the gate, so that it could avoid the main pulse frequency of water, thus avoid the strong vibration of the gate.(2) Through the analysis of the dynamic characteristic o radial gates, it concluded: the whole yardstick size and each component of rigidities of radial gate is two important factors to influence the own frequency value of radial gate.
