This paper introduces the design of the novel Loop Heat Pipe with a flat evaporator. The test-bed is built to test the performance of the novel Loop Heat Pipe using acetone and anhydrous ammonia as the working fluids. The tests concentrate on the characteristics of the start-up, the abrupt change of heat load, the periodic change of heat load, anti-gravity capability and the operation in different orientations. The variety of phenomenon is analyzed according to the change of temperature. The results indicate that the novel Loop Heat Pipe with a flat evaporator possesses excellent thermal-control characteristics and the anhydrous ammonia is more suitably than acetone to be the system working fluid. This paper introduces the process of making compound porous wick with high capability. The novel Loop Heat Pipe equipped with compound porous wick is designed and tested. The experiment investigation concentrations on the characteristics of the start-up, the abrupt change of heat load and the periodic change of heat load. Comparing with the novel Loop Heat Pipe equipped with single porous wick, the experiment results show that compound porous wick can decrease the system heat resistance and the working temperature of evaporator is put down, and the system can work steadily with high heat load, but the temperature of the system will oscillate in low power.
