This paper is concerned with the calculation methods of nonlinear random vibration and the reliability of engineering structures. Some existing methods are developed by theoretical deduction and numerical simulation. New analysis methods are proposed. The validity of new methods is proved by numerical simulation. The numerical simulation also makes the application of the methods to practice possible.Firstly, in the dissertation the dynamic response of nonlinear multi-degree-of-degree system is calculated based on analysis of the available methods by equivalentlinear method and pseudo-excitation method. Then, the dynamic response of stochastic structures is calculated by orthogonal expansion method. The determination of the reliability of deterministic and stochastic structure is based on the theory of dynamic reliability. Because of the probability of the occurrence of strong earthquakes and the severe damage caused by them, this paper proposes new method for the determination of the non-stationary response of single-degree of freedom system under strong earthquakes. Finally, numerical simulation is made by Matlab program.
