This paper utilized the ABAQUS 6.5-1 FEA program to study the mechanical character of steel frame-RC corewall hybrid structure. At First computed the response of three plane structures when a lateral displacement was acted on their roof, and compared the hybrid structure with the RC structure and the steel structure, to research the change of the mechanical property which was caused by the hybrid of different material structure system. Then simulated and analyzed a classical spacial high-rising steel frame-RC corewall hybrid structure as it carried three kind of actions singly, which were monotone/cyclic lateral displacement on the roof and lateral earthquake action on the base, and the influence of the connection between steel beam and RC corewall, the reinforcement of corewall and the level of steel were taken into account. The analysis indicated:①This kind of structure system integrates the advantage of RC structure and steel structure. At the earlier stage of load it has greater lateral stiffness, and at the later stage it behave better ability of deformation and load endurance, so it possesses better capability to resist the lateral action.②Its mechanical character is dominated by the part of RC structure or steel structure respectively before or after the structure yielded.③The part of steel frame can play the role as the second line in the resistance.④The structure has better capacity to absorb and dissipate energy, which is profitable for seismic fortification.⑤The join connector between steel beam and RC corewall will lead decrease in structure yield load and lateral stiffness.⑥When the reinforcement of corewall is increased, the stuctrue stiffness will increase also.⑦When the level of steel is raised, the structure maximum load has a greater increase. At the earlier stage of load the corewall carries most part of shearing force and overturning moment, and it leads the corewall to crack. After the stiffness of corewall decreases, the steel frame becomes more important to resist the lateral action. When the structure yields, the steel frame bares about half shearing force and overturning moment. The crack of corewall does not cause the structure collapse rapidly. In the end, according to its mechanical character, some suggestions were made for its practical usage and the farther study.
