This thesis focuses on problems encountered in modern residential community outdoor space design and searches for solutions. Using topology of architecture and surrounding context, in-depth study of building form and landscape, this thesis explores new design methods for residential community outdoor space. INTERACTIVE DESIGN METHOD is proposed here to enhance continuity and interactivity during design process, therefore improve final outcome. Outdoor space design in residential area involves not only landscaping, but also the dialog between architecture and environment, the relationship of building form and space, etc. To achieve ideal living environment, we need to analyze all the elements related, strengthen the indoor outdoor relationship and pay attention to the compliment of landscape and architectural space.This thesis consists four chapters to approach INTERACTIVE DESIGN METHOD, following the logic of problem searching, problem analyzing and problem solving.Chapter 1.Introduction.Based on extensive study of design theory world wide, research structure and method are established which form the foundation of this thesis. Through a thorough review of major existing problems in residential environment, the concept of INTERACTIVE DESIGN is proposed as a solution.Chapter 2. Further explore the aim of INTERACTIVE DESIGN METHOD as well as define the extensive contents and support provided in this thesis.Chapter 3. Reveal the strategy and techniques used at different levels in the process of INTERACTIVE DESIGN and a few case-studies.Summary. Conclude and examine INTERACTIVE DESIGN METHOD through a case study of typical modern residential community outdoor space design.
