With the security and economy of hydropower generator sets being important in plant, companies have a higher technical demand on the vibration monitoring and automatic fault diagnosis system than ever. In the paper, a state monitoring and fault diagnosis system of hydropower generator based on LabVIEW is developed.In the paper, the familiar vibration faults of hydropower generator sets are summarized and theories and knowledge about vibration are described in order to supply academic base for system development.In the paper, the vibration signal of hydropower generator sets are analyzed and disposed. The vibration analyze charts about amplitude, phase and the set rotate speed are come true .And the basic truss of SIS of hydropower plant is brought forward.The paper tries to use wavelet to filter the shaft orbits, which has confirmed the advantage in use wavelet to filter instability signal. Now the moment invariant has been used to discriminate graph and image widely. The paper researches the use conditions of the moment invariant in identifying shaft orbits of hydropower generator sets. It has found that the moment would be variable in the scale invariants condition. The reason is explained qualitatively. Improved method is classifying the template shaft orbits detailed. It has proved that the improved moments makes for differentiating shaft orbits. Based on analyzing the shaft orbits, the vibration fault analyses and diagnosis system is developed grounded on LabVIEW.Finally, the vibration fault analyses of hydropower generator sets are researched based on frequency spectrum. The fuzzy mathematics are applied into diagnose possible causes of hydropower generator sets based on causality between familiar faults causes and symptoms and different amplitudes on different positions, which implement vibration fault analyses and diagnosis grounded on LabVIEW.
