With the development of the economy, our country is facing an increasing demand for power load while low voltage distribution networks are increasing in terms of load and distance. In order to improve the reliability of power supply, automation of power supply becomes an important technology. Based on the project for Huzhou distribution network, the development of distribution management system (DMS) is performed in this paper. The full research and application of communication stipulations, front computer software, and theoretic line-loss calculation is produced in detail also in this paper. The main works of the thesis is as following:1. Summarize the concept of distribution automation system, current situation of distribution automation in foreign countries and line-loss management. The necessity and significance of line-loss management research is pointed out.2. According to the actuality of Huzhou distribution network, the schemes of communication network, communication channel, software structure, function module, topology modeling is put forward. The design of relevant software modules is then determined and expatiated.3. Theμ4F communication protocol is introduced in detail, which is adopted as the communication protocol in this system.4. Present the function demand, module division, hiberarchy, module intercommunion, and data structure of the software for the front computer, which acts a special role in the whole system. Through the front computer, information exchange between RTU and workstations is realized. The front computer software also provides a convenient debug tool and interface of RTU.5. Based on the average-current method, line-loss calculation is provided. Considering the SVC equipped in the distribution network, a practical method based on iterative algorithm is put forth, and calculation precision is improved. From the calculation results, improvement of electricity quality and reduction of line-loss is also obvious after the SVC is added in the power line.
