| The design of heating and air-condition system needs to compute thermal load and cold load of a building, and deals with the disposal of many special equipments and so on . Althought the calculational methods are very simple, the process involves excessive parameters of the building .The key to realize the automatic and intelligent design is the symbol understanding and intelligent recognition in engineering drawings.This paper realizes a new method for computerizing architectural plans understanding by VisualLisp. The method sufficiently considers all the characteristics of architectural plans, and have an immediately good effect on the wall symbol recognition, also in term of door symbol recognition, window symbol recognition . A room area recogniton software system available for computation thermal load is developed based on the methods. The software system can understand the regular architectural plans conforming exactly to fact, and then accurately computes the geometric parameters about outer wall and window . The main contents and innovations go as follows.1. This paper gives some more extremely careful and precise.concept about wall symbol.and realizes an approach for wall symbol recognition in understanding architectural plans, establishs the rules library for the wall node , and puts forward the method for analysis of door and window Blocks, establishs the facts library2. Putting forward and realizing the method for searching the closed wall symbol3. Putting forward the method for the division between outer wall and inner wall ,and the way to recognize a room area4.
