Much greater measurement accuracy is required in the fuel measurement system. At the present time, the concentricity capacitance fuel mass sensor is usually used in our country, which is easily affected by many factors such as fuel temperature, density and environment noise pollution, thus it's difficult to get greater measurement accuracy in application. The magnetostriction liquid level sensor has been used widely in industrial field due to some merits such as higher reliability, greater accuracy, higher security, convenient for system automation, and more parameters for measurement, but there has been no research on it in the civil aviation fuel mass measurement.The magnetostriction technology is employed in fuel mass measurement in this paper, the measurement principle of the magnetostriction liquid level sensor is thoroughly expatiated. Moreover, a mechanical structure and the corresponding measurement circuits are proposed. Based on the measurement principle of the magnetostriction liquid level sensor, a new design method of fuel density sensor is proposed, and fuel mass measurement system based on magnetostriction effect is built. The importance of magnetostriction technology will bring greater accuracy of fuel mass measurement.The work of this paper includes:1. Mechanical structure design of the magnetostriction liquid level sensor. Characteristics of magnetostriction materials are analyzed, the proper sensitive material is chosen, and the measurement ruler, magnetostriction energy converter, magnetism dobber, circuit board are designed.2. Measurement circuits design of the magnetostriction liquid level sensor. According to subject study, control circuit with MCU AT89C51 as a core, pulse sending circuit, pulse receiving circuit, counter circuit, temperature measurement circuit, data displaying circuit are designed; the system software design is finished.3. The influence of change in the fuel density upon the measurement error is analyzed, while the result is shown by Matlab, and a relevant temperature compensation method is discussed, which can reduce the level measurement error on fuel temperature change.
