Differential pressure flowmeter is the most widely used flowmeter in industry. As a new type of differential pressure flowmeter, V-cone flowmeter has many advantages. Compared with orifice plate, V-cone has lower permanent pressure loss, less straight pipe require of upstream and downstream, can be used in high temperature and dirty field, especially in harsh situation, such as the measurement of wet gas in near shore oil field, rubbish burning for power, coke oven gas's measurement and so on. The V-cone flowmeter is becoming more and more popular in China and world. However, there is no report about the influence of cone's geometrical shape to the V-cone's performance. The paper researched the relationship between the cone's geometrical shape and V-cone's discharge coefficient. The main work includes: the numerical study using CFD; design and manufacture a V-cone flowmeter for experiment; calibration system designing; data sampling and processing. Twenty seven 100mm V-cones (β=0.5,β=0.65,β=0.85) are tested and the data of numerical and experimental study are required.Firstly, using Computational Flow Dynamics software, Fluent5.5, the flow field of V-cone flowmeter is studied. The main work includes: using Gambit to create the V-cone's geometrical model; seeking for proper turbulence model for computing; twenty seven cones are studied using Fluent5.5. According to the numerical study result, the relationship between the cone's geometrical shape and discharge coefficient is analyzed.Secondly, 100mm V-cone flowmeter is designed and the cone can be changed freely. The tube is made of transparent material. All the parts of the flowmeter can be disassembled freely. Under this condition, measures are taken to make sure that the cone is inserted in the center of the tube and the mechanical intensity is enough for the test.Then, the existent calibration system is updated. The work includes: using multi-threading technology to reprogram the calibration software; adjusting the data sampling card and enlarging the range of differential pressure meter; twenty seven cones are tested on calibration system and the data are required. Finally, the numerical data and experimental data are processed.
