Study On Eco-village Concept And Its Strategy In Community Design

As a result of over-expanded population in cities,exhausted non-renewable resources and worsen eco-environment, eco-village movement was initiated in 1990's as a new kind of solution. Through building private dwelling group which maximally shares public facilities, eco-village aims to renovate community of multiple social and material advantages. It absorbs the sustainability of society, culture and resources from traditional settlement, while maintaining the characteristics of modern community. In order to create a comfortable, attractive and sustainable community, eco-village integrates both natural technologies and modern ecological technologies, and utilizes the whole system concept of environment design, social skills and energy technologies.The dissertation conducts a wide-scale study covering the subjects of architecture, urban design, ecology, economics and society, which is freed from the limitation of design theory. It studies the modern values and meanings of eco-village in order to guide eco-planning and eco-design for sustainable communities. The dissertation fills the blank of eco-village study from the professional approach of architecture. Comparing with the eco-villages of different periods and different regions, studying their experiences are helpful to provide theoretical instruction for both sustainable community and new socialism village construction in China.On the base of reviewing the developments of eco-design and sustainable urban design, the dissertation provides both theoretical and technological supports for eco-village study. Through the integrated study of the sustainable economics, the dissertation discovers the economic and social origins of eco-village. It discusses the basic guides of eco-village, while studying both the common and different features during its development. The dissertation integrates other subjects in order to seek the application principles in eco-village design. According to the design theory of bio-region, the practice characteristics of different kind of eco-village are illustrated. Finally the analysis from social, economics and culture aspects are integrate with information technology's condition in order to discuss the eco-village's influence on future community design and forecast the its developing possibilities in China.
