| Ecological civilization is a major feature of the 21st century. Living environment is the important area for daily life, entertainment, living as well as a basic unit of our cities. Therefore, it's of great significance to emphasize the natural and ecological quality of circumstances so as to improve the relationship between human beings and nature, form organic ecological unit of cities and fulfill the citizens' spiritual experience.Conforming to the requirements of sustainable development and the establishment of a harmonious society, this paper introduces the ecological design method into the design of the landscape of residential areas, analyzes from the ecological angle, and studies the effective use of the water source, waste recycling, energy, conservation, use of clean resources and plant materials while improving the living quality of the residents. Besides, this paper explores the method to build a harmonious and healthy ecological residential area so as to promote the development of a harmonious society. The method adopted in this paper is a totally new one which combines the features of the date which will be of great value to our society suffering from scarce resources and lift the establishment of residential areas to a new height.
