The Research On The Cultural Background Of Chinese Garden And English Landscape Garden

Chinese traditional garden and English landscape garden are both brilliant in the world history of garden art. The development of the second was influenced by the first. But there are still many differences in the natural views that they both encompass, and this is related to their own historical cultural backgrounds. In this thesis, a comparative research was conducted on the development and cultural background of the two styles of garden arts.The subject research of this thesis contains four parts. The first part is a comparison between the historical development of Chinese and English garden with a discussion of the influence of different processes of development on garden art traditions. The second part is a comparison between the influences of landscape painting in the two countries on garden art and discussed the styles of reality and illusion reflected in garden views. The third part made an analysis on the different attitudes of Chinese and English traditional philosophy and aesthetic ideas to the beauty of nature, as well as the effects of intellectuals' spirits and their way of expression in garden arts. As the end, the fourth part made an arrangement about the knowledge of how Chinese garden art was introduced to U.K. and influenced the development of English landscape Garden.
